Mini Crocheted Cactus Garden

Round Cactus with Flower

Materials:

-worsted weight yarn: cactus color (I used Red Heart Super Saver “Light Sage”), flower color (I used Red Heart Super Saver “Dark Orchid”) & flower pot color (you may choose to match this color to the color of your flower pot, or use a contrasting color for a unique effect!)
-size G crochet hook
-stuffing
-glue (I used a hot glue gun, but you may use tacky glue or anything else you think might work well for this project)
-yarn needle

Instructions:

Cactus:
With cactus color, start with a magic ring and 8 sc into ring.
Round 1: 2 sc in each sc around. (16)
Round 2: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (24)
Rounds 3-4: Sc in each sc around. (24)
Round 5: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (32)
Rounds 6-8: Sc in each sc around. (32)
Round 9: (Dec1, sc in each of next 6 sc)around. (28)
Rounds 10-12 (3 rounds): Sc in each sc around. (28)
Sl st in next sc and fasten off.

Flower:
With flower color, ch 2. 6 sc in second ch from hook.
Round 1: (Ch 2, work [hdc, dc] in next st, sl st in next st)three times.
Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn.

Pot Plug:
This is to make sure the stuffing doesn't fall out of the bottom hole of the flower pot before you attach the flower pot base. Use any color yarn you want for this because this part will not be visible when your cactus is completed.
Starting with a magic ring, 6 sc into ring.
2 sc in each st around.
(Sc in next st, 2 sc in next st)twice.
Sl st in next st and fasten off.
Glue this piece to the inside of the bottom of the flower pot to plug the hole in the pot.

Flower Pot Base:
With flower pot color, start with a magic ring and work 6 sc into ring.
Round 1: 2 sc in each sc around. (12)
Round 2: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (18)
Round 3: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (24)
Round 4: (Sc in each of next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (30)
Round 5: Sc in BLO of each sc around. (30)
Round 6: (Dec1, sc in each of next 13 sc)twice. (28)
Round 7: Sl st in each st around.
Sl st in next st and fasten off.

Finishing:
Fill the flower pot with poly-pellets or stuffing.
With glue, attach the flower pot base to the bottom of the flower pot.
With glue, attach the cactus to the inside of the flower pot.

Tall Round Cactus with Flower & Bud

Materials:

-worsted weight yarn: cactus color (I used Loops & Threads Impeccable “Grass”), flower color (I used Caron One Pound “Soft Pink”) & flower pot color (you may choose to match this color to the color of your flower pot, or use a contrasting color for a unique effect!)
-size G crochet hook
-stuffing
-glue (I used a hot glue gun, but you may use tacky glue or anything else you think might work well for this project)
-yarn needle

Instructions:

Cactus:
With cactus color, start with a magic ring and 7 sc into ring.
Round 1: 2 sc in each sc around. (14)
Round 2: Sc in each sc around. (14)
Round 3: (2 sc in next sc, sc in next sc)around. (21)
Rounds 4-6 (3 rounds): Sc in each sc around. (21)
Round 7: (Dec1, sc in next sc)around. (14)
Round 8: Dec1 around. (7)
Round 9: 2 sc in each sc around. (14)
Round 10: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (21)
Round 11: (Sc in each of next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc)around. (28)
Rounds 12-18 (7 rounds): Sc in each sc around. (28)
Round 19: (Dec1, sc in each of next 12 sc)twice. (26)
Round 20: Sc in each sc around. (26)
Sl st in next sc and fasten off.

Flower:
With flower color of choice, ch2. 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Round 1: Sc in each st around.
Round 2: Working in back loops only, *(sc in next st, ch4, sl st in 2nd ch from hook, sc in next chain, hdc in next chain, sc in same space), repeat from * four more times. (5 petals)
Sl st in first sc and fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn for sewing.
Sew flower to cactus.

Flower Bud:
With flower color of choice, ch2. 5 sc in 2nd ch from hook.
Rounds 1-2: Sc in each st around.
Fasten off flower color and attach cactus color by pulling up a loop through the last stitch worked.
Round 3: Sc in each sc around.
Sl st in next sc and fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn for sewing.
Sew flower bud to cactus.

Grafted Cactus

-worsted weight yarn: cactus color (I used Red Heart Super Saver “Hunter Green”), graft color (I used Red Heart Super Saver “Shocking Pink”), soil color (I used Red Heart Super Saver “CafĂ© Latte”) & flower pot color (you may choose to match this color to the color of your flower pot, or use a contrasting color for a unique effect!)
-size G crochet hook
-stuffing
-glue (I used a hot glue gun, but you may use tacky glue or anything else you think might work well for this project)
-yarn needle

Instructions:

Cactus:
With cactus color, ch 15.
Row 1: Sc in second ch from hook and in each ch across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 2: Sc in each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 3: Sc in BLO of each sc across. Ch 1, turn.
Row 4: Repeat Row 2.
Row 5: Repeat Row 3.
Row 6: Repeat Row 2.
Row 7: Sc in each of next 9 sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in each of last 3 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 8: Sc in each of next 10 sc, dec1 twice, sc in each of last 2 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 9: Repeat Row 3.
Row 10: Repeat Row 2.
Row 11: Sc in each of next 6 sc, 2 sc in each of next 3 sc, sc in each of last 5 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Row 12: Repeat Row 3.
Row 13: Sc in each of next 5 sc, dec1 three times, sc in each of last 6 sc. Ch 1, turn.
Rows 14-15: Repeat Row 2.
Row 16: With wrong sides together, hold front row to back row and sc down both rows at once.
Now you should have what looks like a tube.
Fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn.

Graft:
With graft color, start with a magic ring and into ring work (sc, hdc) four times. (8 sts)
Round 1: (2 sc in next sc, fphdc in next st)around. (12 sts)
Round 2: (2 sc in each of next 2 sc, fphdc in next st)around. (20 sts)
Round 3: (Sc in next sc, 2 sc in each of next 2 sc, sc in next sc, fphdc in next st)around. (28 sts)
Round 4: Sc in BLO of each sc, fphdc in each hdc. (28 sts)
Rounds 5-8 (4 rounds): Sc in each sc, fphdc in each hdc. (28 sts)
Round 9: (Sc in next sc, dec1 twice, sc in next sc, fphdc in next st)around. (20 sts)
Round 10: (Dec1 twice, fphdc in next st)around. (12)
Sl st in next st and fasten off, leaving a tail of yarn.
Add stuffing.

Use yarn needle and thread tail of yarn through the stitches around the opening of the graft piece. Pull stitches to cinch and match the size of the opening of the cactus piece to the size of the opening of the graft piece.
Fill with stuffing and sew both pieces together.

Attach soil color to the cactus piece by pulling up a loop anywhere along the bottom ring of the cactus.
2 sc around base of cactus.
Work a few rounds sc in each st around.
Add more stuffing, if needed.
With glue, attach this part to the inside of the flower pot.
